Hand-Thrown Stoneware Mug

St. Paul, Minnesota

A stoneware mug thrown by hand in a solar-powered Minnesota pottery.

Every mug is thrown on a wheel in Deneen's solar-powered St. Paul shop, where sixteen full-time potters each throw two to three hundred a day and each mug passes through more than twenty pairs of hands. Fired stoneware with a food-safe, lead- and cadmium-free glaze holds heat far longer than a thin ceramic mug. Family-owned since 1972, and no two come out identical.
