Java Mug
Newell, West Virginia
A vitrified china mug from the pottery that has run since 1871.
Fully vitrified, lead-free china fired in Newell, West Virginia, where the company has made dinnerware since 1871 and still turns out about three million pieces a year. Vitrified china barely absorbs water, so it does not craze or hold coffee stains, and the glaze survives the dishwasher, microwave, and oven. The pattern has stayed in open stock for decades, which is why a broken mug is a replacement rather than a loss.
