- O-ring sealed threads are what make a light water-resistant, and they are replaceable when they perish.
- Check that bulbs, switches, and tail caps are sold as parts. A light with a parts diagram is a light for decades.
- Runtime and lumens trade against each other. A 1,000-lumen burst mode is far less useful than a steady 200 that runs for hours.
