What to look for
- Stainless steel in the 304 grade will not rust at the weld points, which is where every cheap coated-wire rack fails within two years.
- A removable, sloped drip tray is what keeps standing water out of the counter seam. Fixed trays are a design shortcut.
- Check the wire spacing against your plates. Too wide and bowls tip; too narrow and dinner plates will not seat.
- Wood racks look better and need more care: they want a periodic oiling and will stain if left wet, which is a fair trade for some kitchens.
