What to look for
- Load rating is the whole specification. A rack rated below 100 lb is decorative; a full set of cast iron will exceed it.
- Ceiling racks must be lagged into joists, not drywall anchors. If the mounting hardware is not included and rated, that is a warning.
- Steel and iron racks can be re-plated or repainted decades on; powder-coated aluminum cannot be repaired once it chips.
- Hooks are consumable — check they are a standard size you can buy more of, since a rack usually outlives its original hook set.
